Mexican Revolution, C.1910-29, Zapata and Villa period. 36" length. Made in two pieces with commercially bent top from another cane and hand shaped (not lathe turned) shaft decorated its full length in colored cultural and patriotic motifs including the eagle and snake, cactus and floral displays, winged Aztec god, jaguar and MEXICO. The decoration incised and sin chip work on textured backgrounds and colored. The motifs definitely expressing patriotic fervor, not tourist taste. The shaft a bit irregular as carved and with cracks from being made of green wood. Wonderful early Mexican character and the only such example we have encountered.
