Silvered bronze, just under 1 ¼” height plus the loop. Bulbous form with a rounded relief segment in the shape of a Roman legioniare’s uniform mount (pteruges). Utilization of that form is typical of the Dark Ages after the fall of Rome, when the old decorative elements including frescos and mosaics survived and were copied without artistic progress. This is the period of the growth of Christianity and pilgrimages to the Holy Land. Professionally refurbished with the silver overlay restored on a sterling silver neck chain for modern wear. Gift boxed with a certificate of authenticity.
