This ring belonged to a man of the merchant class in the years following the fall of the Roman Empire. It was meant to advertise his status above the peasant class. It is slightly oval, with a nub on the bottom, carryovers from the Roman taste. It is size 7 1/4, 3.9mm width band at the base which is slightly swelled. The raised bezel is inscribed with an elongated angular figure, perhaps the Star of Bethlehem, identifying the owner as Christian. It has been professionally refurbished with the 24karat gold overlay restored and gift boxed with a certificate of authenticity.
