Fine gilt bronze example. Dating to the period of the Christian conversion of the Vikings.  Just under 5/8” height plus the suspension ring. Modeled in the round in good detail, with broad rounded border forming the cusp and continuing as scroll terminals above a straight beam trefoil. A clear reference to the ancient form but recognizing the Christian cross.  Made by the open face mold technique. The heart stood for bravery, fortitude, loyalty, integrity, all attributes of the Viking warrior. It is abundantly referenced in Viking literature. By 1100 AD most of the Viking population had converted to Christianity, but many of their pagan symbols were integrated into their new faith. Professionally refurbished with the silver surface restored on a Sterling silver neck chain for modern wear. Gift boxed with certificate of authenticity.
