Late 18th century-1800. 20" length. 12 1/8" tapered .70 cal barrel octagonal at the breech with tool finish removing decoration indicative of a captured barrel. The muzzle sheathed in finely worked silver including a "cannon" form muzzled ring. High relief decorated brass furniture. Iron lock with swan neck cock, finely engraved in scrolls. Well carved black walnut full stock with brass escutcheon to the wrist with silver wire including the horseshoe and scimitar indicating that it was decorated in Pec, Kosovo. See Elgood, p.186, pl.230. As with virtually all of these, it is a multicultural product. It was made in Northern Italy for export, decorated in the Balkans and retailed for use, probably by a Turkish officer. Fine condition for its age and use.
