Second half of the 19th century, collected by Baptist missionaries about 1890. 8 7/8" trowel shaped blade chiseled with concentric lines in leaf shaped panel each side. Fine wood hilt with flared base and especially large wheel form pommel decorated in radial reeded and checkered panels. Dark patina throughout. The blade with old preservative and showing a single edge crack as forged. Hilt excellent with fine patina. Used in close quarters house raids.
