An early example of quality construction. The hilt of characteristic stylized animal form, evidently wood, completely sheathed in brass panels, deeply chiseled in geometric motifs on chiseled ground and details of the rudimentary form animal head. Complete, with all seams tight. Iron bolster and very thick 13" wedge section, both sides with brass inlays and chiseled panels. The back with hound’s tooth decoration on brass inlay band. In excellent well-aged condition with some superficial staining only. Original two-piece wood scabbard carved with matching the central motif and hound's tooth panels. The middle retaining band only lacking. Quality example with a wonderful age character.
