Muromachi Shogunate, C.1500. Domed skull of 24 overlapping radial raised edge plates. The principal front plate of increased width. Flared brim pierced for attachment of the articulated shikoro (neck plates). The skull plates with spotted parchment surface preserved about 80%. The balance with spots rusted through which could be restored by filling and duplicating the parchment surface. Hardened hide liner intact with minor damage. 10" dia. brim. Any Japanese armor of this age is very rare.
