Iconic X form hilt made of a single piece of piece of dark brown wood. The grip wrapped in fine silver wire flanked by a pair of silver rosettes. 9" medially ridged blade with hammer finish. Exceptional form, proportions and excellent preservation. The Hadendoa were known to the British as Fuzzy Wuzzies, immortalized by Kipling's poem in which he pays tribute to their prowess as warriors. Said to be the only third world warriors feared by the British, it was the Fuzzy Wuzzy who broke the square at the Battle of Tama during the Sudanese (Mahdist) War.
