Central Europe/Southern Germany. Forged iron, 15 1/4" length with 11" wedge section blade and peened on pommel cap. Originally with a simple lug side guard and scale grips. Excellent excavated condition. Weapons such as this were carried by peasants under the guise of being farm tools as they were otherwise prohibited from being armed. That these are truly weapons is shown by the fact that they are uniformly preserved with their original edges intact, whereas knives used as tools were repeatedly sharpened with the edges reshaped. On Plexiglas display stand.
