Balkan, with 7" wedge section blade with slightly up swept, false edged point. The right side with boldly chiseled foliage in the Greek taste. One piece bronze hilt with scalloped bolster. Octagonal section with domed faceted pommel with the tang peened. That feature, among others, distinguishes this dagger from its Eastern corollaries. The grip and bolster engraved with scrolling foliage on stipple ground. Brass/bronze sheath. With belt loop to the top and engraved each side with a large foliate flourish. Blade lightly textured with good patina. Scabbard with minor bruises and a single round dent, evidently from a pistol ball. Rare form and superior preservation.
