Brass hilt, originally gilt with large anchor motif side guard and brass wire wrapped grip. 24 ½” hollow faced triangular blade, undecorated and showing good smooth mottled surface in red blade seat. Hilt with matching good patina. This is a fighting sword suited for on deck where close-in fighting required shorter blades as typical for cutlasses, dating to a period of political turmoil which resulted in changes of government. This sword is suitable for defending against borders, but more likely served against attacks by the crew, singularly or in groups.
