Brass hilt with three side bar guard and wire wrapped leather covered grip. 32 1/2" straight broad and narrow fullered blade. The guard with inspection marks and the blade unmarked indicating that it was not the product of a French arsenal, but probably assembled for private purchase, possibly for the Revolutions of 1848, but more likely for sale to the Confederacy or a Southern militia during the American Civil War. Excellent throughout for the period.
