Mahdist War of 1885. 7 1/8” curved d.e. blade with pierced central key slot and divided tip emulating Zul Fikar, the sword of Mahomed, given him by the Angel Gabriel. Both sides etched with geometric Thuluth script accommodating the piercing. Etching quite crisp on a gray ground. The hilt and scabbard completely covered in black, red white and blue trade beads with matching lattice suspending 14 cowries which were imported and highly valued. Beadwork complete with some age discoloration throughout. These daggers were worn by the Dervish followers of the Mahdi who were closest to him. The only example we have encountered with pierced, divided blade and beaded hilt.
