Second C.1550-1600. 15 1/2” length, finely forged with medially ridged leaf shaped point on fine conical support over broad and narrow band. That feature became fashionable in Spain during the period and is found on pommel bases of the flamboyant Spanish two hand swords of the period. Tapered socket with a hole for anchor pin. Untouched with chocolate patina, surface oxidation growth and a little intrusion, resulting in a wonderful age character. Dating to the early Conquistador period of Caribbean settlements and war with Aztecs. Quality expected in the Gothic period, found only rarely in the 16th century.
