From a group including an example at the Metropolitan Museum of Art dated 1610. Elegant two piece skull with raised rolled edge seam pierced for a crest, the plates radially fluted from the apex. The flutes with decorative line work as well. Integral rolled edge brim pierced for a nasal bar. Brim point damaged with old repair. Right side of the skull with a brazed crack. Cheek pieces and neck plates lacking. Obviously used in this condition, probably in the Thirty Years War when every resource was tapped. Surface worn with brown patina. A fascinating survivor with the potential for the amateur restorer to be brought back to its original glory.
