Hilt of characteristic large early proportions, silver overlaid with about 70% remaining. Hand reeded bone grip slightly waisted above the sheet ferrule. Leather covered iron scabbard shows about 100% silver to the mounts. 4" segment of leather below the top mount partially lacking. 25 3/4" d.e. broad fullered blade beautifully decorated with foliage, military trophies, crossed flags below liberty cap and eagle vanquishing a snake. Blade in virtually mint condition, bright with one or two tiny smooth black speckles only. Classic for Civil War and an owner of means.
