Mahdist period C.1885. Fine black and white wood hilt with integral flared guard. The upper half lathe turned and the lower half hand carved with uniform light tool finish for better purchase. The pommel cap made form a European button. 7 3/8" blade, finely forged from a file, likely captured in a raid. Medial ridge and discrete beveled edges with light tool finish and soft gray patina. Exceptional example combining superior workmanship and preservation.
