Early 20th century. Iron hilt. The faces and top finely inlaid with engraved detail silver floral segments exactly as found on dress spurs of the period. The sides inlaid with scale decorated brass serpentine bands. Thick ball terminal iron fighting cross guard. 5 1/8” tapered diamond section blade. The ricasso hand engraved with MEXICO. That inscription made after the knife was purchases as an expression of patriotism and having nothing to do with country of origin markings. The Revolution of 1910-20 the period from which period this knife originates was a period of social upheaval with the populous wresting power from the government, the Church and foreign financial and political interests. The inscription represents the vision of a New Mexico, of the people.
