17th-18th century. Iron, 18 ¼” diameter, domed with applied brass edge. The surface chisel decorated throughout with four annular bands, the widest with 16 panels of calligraphy overlaid in silver on foliage ground. The interior with eight oval panels of stylized flowers decorated with gold line work, on chiseled foliate ground, all surrounding a central panel with matching detail and decoration. Beautiful display. Chiseled decoration is rarer and considered far superior to etched.
