The hilt of large proportions with oval guard pierced and chased with a hound among military arms including a shield with the Union Jack motif. The opposing shell with complimentary splay including the Union Jack and an anchor, with an eagle. The guard and pommel with combinations of those elements including two dramatic hound's heads at the quillon block, from the mouths of which issue the gross guard and arms. Silver wire and tape wrapped grip. 31 3/4" colichemarde blade in original blade seat. The forte decorated in scrolling foliage. Blade shows smooth glossy gray patina with the decoration slightly weak, typical for a sword serving at sea requiring more cleaning that if on land. A fine example in excellent preservation with wonderful age character.
