British M.1751 infantry hanger and Brown Bess bayonet mounted in black leather scabbards with double frog and shoulder strap. The sword, bayonet and scabbard mounts are original. The double frog and shoulder belt are later but not new or restorations, definitely having been made for use and showing use. Both scabbards are possibly original and recovered, but likely contemporary with the frog mount. As the sword is ordnance marked without the broad arrow of crown ownership, and the bayonet issue numbered only, they served one of the private militias maintained by English nobles. The refurbishment, then, would have been for ceremonial purposes, carrying on the exercises original to the weapons. Sword and bayonet both well preserved for the period. The first 1751 we have offered in a great many years!
