Iron head with large crescent bit and curved back spike. The eye expanded in the middle to enhance purchase. One side with forged lamination. 26 ½” length. The original haft with butt pierced for a wrist thong. Probably painted originally as typical for use at sea and showing dark patina with an axe or sword cut below the eye. The head with raised surface rust as expected. The Spanish navy was traditionally allied with the French from mid-century on.
