Brass hilt, formerly gilt, with urn form pommel and thickened edge slightly asymmetrical shell guards. Heavy brass wire wrapped grip. 31" straight, broad fullered s.e. blade. Hilt sound, tight and complete, with a little wear only. The blade quite smooth with scattered light pitting, a few tiny marks heavier, strictly as expected for its age and use. Pattern which was used in Northern Europe (German states) as well as adopted, with the folding guard variation, as the English 1796 pattern. Used in colonial America, The Revolution and particularly in the Napoleonic Wars.
