Late 16th century. Finely forged iron head with trapezoidal form diamond section pint with integral cylindrical socket and short cheek straps. Both sides of the head with light chevron file pattern to the bottom, a finishing "signature" touch of the artisan. Hexagonal wood haft. 84 1/8" overall. The haft with glossy surface over working life abrasions. Head Head quite smooth with mottled patina and evidence of lamination.
