Forged iron, 374 3/4” height with 4-4 nail arrangement and small calkins. Characteristic broad form, this example made for a horse with deformed hoof as indicated by one side being shorter, but with up turned end (calkin) and so, fitting the hoof in that form. Excavated with stable surface. Recovered at Königstein Castle, Hesse, Germany, between Frankfurt and Wiesbaden. Iron, 3” length with diamond section point and butted seam conical socket. With copy of original find/collection note. The castle ruins stand today with the earliest portions reduced to the ground floor in the 14th century and rebuilt and fragmented several times thereafter with several buildings in the town of Königstein constructed from the castle stone. Rarely encountered with such specific and historic information.
