13th century, period of the fourth through 9th crusades. Iron, with long hilt. The pommel of rare form, identified as Type W by Oakeshott, of rounded form with the greatest width below center and arched upper portion rising to a peak which negates the need for a button. The edges ridged rather than flat bands as usually found and both faces rising dramatically to the center. The blade of 2 width at the shoulder, tapering only very slightly, with wide fuller running up through the broad tang. Excavated and eroded with some original surfaces surviving and some severe erosion and losses.
