C.1790-1800. Circular, 3” diameter, black japanned papier-mâché with a Queen Charlotte in typical small crown. Charlotte (Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz) was the Queen of King George III and bore him 15 children, the last in 1783, five years before his first serious mental breakdown. The form of the box corresponds to the pockets of men’s waistcoats of the period. Some chips as shown.
