The actual stamp used to impress the makers name, William Smith & Co. Sheffield on the forte of the blade. Forged steel, 3 3/8 long, waisted for firm grip with the name (in reverse of course) hand cut onto the leading edge. That maker recorded by Ables as 1848-61 and likely produced knives used in the Civil War. The name of the maker of the stamp, Edward Pryor & Son Sheffield stamped on the side of the stamp. Excellent with good used patina.
