An original Australian Aborigine spear from the famed Reuben Rubens collection. In 1992, we purchased all the Aborigine spears in the collection and have seen no others for sale in the last three decades. These would date uniformly to about the turn of the 20th century. 73" length. The shaft made of heavy dark hardwood tapered toward the blunted butt. The head formed by sharpening the shaft to a point with the addition of a sharp pointed barb lashed on with sinew. Sound with few old age checks as expected. The surface with dark patina and some encrustation from use.
