Probably 1880s. 30" d.e. blade of particularly heavy and large proportions, decorated with battle scene, Masonic motifs, owner's name and D B Howell & Co/Masonic Temple/New York. A price list for that company advertising Masonic swords and more dated 1874 survives. We would date this example to about 1880. Good silvered hilt and fine ivory grip with honey patina. Silvered scabbard with high relief decorated mounts, surface worn. Finely made hefty example about 10% larger than most.
