Gilt brass hilt with eagle head pommel and foliage decorated recurved knuckle bow. Reeded bone grip scales. Hilt with fine patina and only smallest flakes to the grip. 31" straight blade, broad fullered first half transitioning to rounded face each side. Blade undecorated and covered in old preservative, showing some frosty oxidation at the forte only. Only example of this pattern which we have seen. Likely produced outside the industry and marketing system which served the Northern states which, along with its lack of patriotic decoration, suggests a Southern militia in the pre-Civil War period.
