Saracen, 12th century AD. Forged iron, 2 1/2” length with medially ridged kite shaped point on slightly flared foot. Tapered tang. The Saracens were the Islamic defenders of the Holy Land against whom the Crusaders fought. Dating to the Second and Third Crusades, the period of the capture of Jerusalem and, ultimately its loss to Saladin, after nearly a century.
