13th century. Iron, 2 3/4” length. Chisel shaped striking face struck with two pairs of crescent form maker’s marks. See Knives and Scabbards (Medieval Finds from Excavations in London), Cowgill, for similar marks darted 13th-14th centuries. Recurved tail. The top bend with an axle and suspension loop. Loop complete but broken. Found in Southern Germany along the Crusader’s route from England and France to the Holy Land.
