Classic example modified from an English Land Transport, M.1855 sword. Cruciform brass hilt and 18 5/8” blade, flat one side and broad fullered the other with the tip rounded and nickel plated. Matching brass mounted pig skin covered scabbard. In the Victorian period, tens of thousands “opera houses” or local theaters provided entertainment in the cities and villages across American and England. Each stocked prop weapons along with costumes for their varied repertories. Many surplus weapons and much armor owe their survival to being repurposed in the theatrical industry.
