Forged iron, 5” height. Shield form section socket with stabilizing spur below. A bearded bit with a sharpened front edge the top of the front edge with a distinct hook to engage a sword blade or similar weapon. As well, the top of the socket is not thickened for a peen as would be a working axe. The excellent excavated condition with considerable original surface intact. The thinness of the bit distinguishes this axe from its working (tool) counterparts. It is made for use against mail and leather armor.
