7” length, of folding knife construction with a white metal (silver?) bowl and bone scale grips (small piece out). See Echoes of Glory, Arms and Equipment of the Confederacy, p.214. top for a similar example from the 7th Virginia, found at Manassas. Confederate soldiers were not issued mess equipment but provided their own. These folding utensils were widely used.
