From Schindler’s Antiques, 200 King St, Charleston, SC, about 1980. 7 1/4” blade reshaped from a kitchen knife. Marked ASHTON JACKSON & CO. Recorded 1841 and after. The blade narrowed with a beveled edge shaped on a grinding wheel, rather than sharpened. Modified for use as weapons and patch knives as well as daily mess. Classic Confederate adaptation as used early in the War.
