3 ¾” length of black japanned papier-mâché. The lid inlaid with pewter eight point stars in a checker board pattern. Triple pewter edge bands, plain, diamonds and roped. Decoration completely intact. Excellent with old label on inside cover. These were used to carry snuff or pipe tobacco interchangeable. Pewter inlay on a black japanned body is the most common construction and takes many forms.
