Possibly New York. See Peterson #65-71 for related examples for which those with known provenance are all New York. 8 1/8” height, hand forged with oval eye in circular socket. Wedge shaped bit and square section back pike with curved tip. One side of the socket struck with SS mark. The other cut with a saltire, struck with a C and another partial cipher. Wonderful hand forged character with dark patina but not excavated. These early spike tomahawks are particularly interesting as they were blacksmith made in the colonies and not imported from European industries as were many later tomahawks.
