2 1/8” length of black japanned papier-mâché. The lid inlaid with pewter border and central medallion (small losses). The edges worn from use and carrying in the pocket, otherwise excellent. These were used to carry snuff or pipe tobacco interchangeable. Pewter foil inlay on a black japanned body is the most common construction and takes many forms.
