Iron cherry, the tool bit used to hollow out bullet molds. Hand forged, 4 1/2 length, with spirally toothed hardened spherical tip which is in effect, a file which cuts a spherical cavity into the scissors mold which in turn, produces a spherical (0.53 cal in this case) ball. The shank cut with roman numeral XXVI, probably indicating the depth of the cut in each half. Excellent for the period. 18th- early 19th century.
