Type used from the 1600's through early 1800's, but predominately dating from the earlier period. Though some call this type a cruise, Nutting calls this type with opened pan as well as the vertical side lidded examples "Bettys". Forged iron, this example of heavy construction, blacksmith forged with black scale finish mixed with a little oxidation and encrustation from use. Height, 13 1/4" including the twisted medial suspension hook made to hang from a ceiling beam. The upper pan with an especially nice fancy partial cover. Charming.
