The head, of classic "round poll hatchet" form. 8" height. See Neumann #4.a dated 1700-1770. The right side struck with a maker's mark as a pair of tongs an RI, perhaps for Rhode Island. The head in typical preservation with black aged finish and the eye front slightly deformed. Now mounted with a well crafted lathe turned haft with double tack mounted swells flanking copper rings and mounted with four deer antler and copper tube suspension. Dramatic display.
