C.1850s early 60s by well documented maker, James Westa, Lord St. Sheffield and so identified on the blade over D C L logo. German silver two piece guard and pommel. Horn scale grips, the left with mother of pearl inlay. The blade crisp and bright with minor gray oxidation from handling. Original scabbard lacks the belt stud. The tip mount a field replacement made from a thimble. The American Civil War stimulated the Sheffield knife industry. Much of its output was channeled to the South, through the blockades. This knife probably saw Confederate service and is in exceptional preservation for the period.
