Probably 18th century. Bonze hilt, originally gilt of curved form, the pommel modeled as a Buddhist dragon with bulging eyes and tusks. His mane rendered in deep relief, along the back of the grip to the base. The throat pierced with a small hole suggesting that it was reused from an earlier sword with a knuckle bow. Good color with some wear and dents to the "throat". 8 5/8" blade of heavy wedge section in pressed with a C mark each side. The back with two inset brass bands. Dark patina with light speckles. Great character.
