19th century and reputed to have been taken from the iron fence surrounding a French chateau, then occupied by Nazis. 20 ½” diameter, domed form with rolled edge, sunken border and two rows of rivets. The field with battle scene of classical figures in Roman/Greek armor, fallen and engaged with spears, swords etc. Some fallen horses. The reverse with six integral posts and one fastening strap. Stable dark patina over old pitting from display outdoors.
