Polish. 36 3/4 length with forged iron axe head hand decorated in punch work and engraving. Hard wood haft with tiger stripe grain. Triple brass bands and brass back spine with a series of rings (two lacking). The base with conical brass ferrule and thick iron ice spike. Type used by Polish Uplanders who inhabit the Carpathians and a part of their traditional costume. Still produced today, this example has some age. 20th century, perhaps first half and showing quality lacking on modern examples.
