Found in Eastern Europe on the pilgrimage route to the Holy Land. About size 2 1/4, of traditional form, the decoration of perfunctory execution as suits an infant. Bronze, the surface worn but with good age patina. For early Christians, a pilgrimage to the Holy Land was a once in a life experience, bonding the pilgrim with God. Enormous sacrifices were necessary to make the journey and, in a culture where half of children failed to live to age five, many small children perished along the route. This ring remains from one of those children, well over a thousand years ago.
