Distinctive pattern, evidently made in Ceylon as the manufacturing methods are not of industrialized production. Brass hilt modeled with a fortress and military trophies in bold execution. Quaint lion head pommel. Wire wrapped grip. 27 1/4" heavy curved blade with long and short narrow fullers shows evidence of being hand forged. Brass mounted textured iron scabbard. Produced for the British colonial army in Ceylon. The blade marked Edward Barnes who was Governor of Ceylon 1820-31. These are very rarely encountered and this is the first we have offered. It rates as the best for condition that we have seen.
